Spaghetti challenge

This class is creative and quite competitive when it comes to engineering challenges.

We used 20 sticks of spaghetti, a specific amount of tape, and string to build the tallest structure we could engineer to hold a marshmallow. 

Emily and I came up with a neat idea that won the competition for the most aesthetically pleasing.

Ours was not the tallest, but it was good looking and it held the marshmallow. 

Foil Self Portraits

Zen-tangles and Giraffes

Felicia led us in a guided drawing lesson to create these cute giraffes.

We used various patterns to embellish the spots.

Dr. Moore came and showed us Zen-Tangles, also creative ways to make patterns in your drawings.

Camouflage and Animal Habitats

Felicia and Emmie led our class in an interesting lesson about animals and the way they use camouflage to blend in with their habitats.

The art project turned out amazing! We drew the animals on transparency film using sharpies and drew the habitat for the animal on cardstock. By overlaying the animal in the habitat, you could clearly see how the camouflage adaptation was helpful to the animal.

Mixed Media Collage

My artist study was about Leo Lionni, a children's book author and illustrator. 

He uses texture and layers with cut and torn paper to create his mixed media collages.

We used his techniques combined with some of those found in a new creative art idea, Bible Art Journaling, to create our own mixed media collages.

Lilly Pulitzer

Our classmate, Tanya, brought an interesting presentation about the clothing artist, Lilly Pulitzer.

She brought refreshing drinks to set the mood for the bright, sunny prints. 

Recycled Art

Our classmates are creative and resourceful when it comes to repurposing objects for art projects. 

Eric Carle's Very Busy Spider

Lenore brought us a project about the children's book author and illustrator, Eric Carle. 

We used tissue paper to recreate spiders similar to the ones found in his book, The Very Busy Spider.

Pointillism

Our classmate, Hannah, led us in an activity using paint and cotton swabs to create pictures using Pointillism. 

Parabolic Lines

I followed the directions given to make a set of parabolic lines. 

I repeated the process in four corners of a square, using a rainbow sequence of colored pencils.

I like how it turned out.  It reminds me of the old Spirograph designs.
